Our Story

We are Tuuli and Katja, 23 and 25-year-old sisters, athletes, and students from Espoo. Together we are Metsäkoivubeach, an energetic and colorful beach volley team.

Beach volleyball

Modern, constantly growing and appealing to everyone. Beach volley has been an Olympic sport since 1996 and it’s a crowd favorite everywhere in the world. The sport is constantly gaining traction in Finland.

FAQ

Yes, beach volleyball is different from indoor volleyball ;) It's played 2 vs 2 (as opposed to 6 vs 6) and it has some more restrictions for how you can touch the ball. Of course all of this means that the tactics and mental game are also different.

15 year background in volleyball.​ Used to being the brains of the team as a setter.

Bachelor of Science studies in Aalto University.

Tuuli has integrated media into her studies and loves photography and videography.

15 year background in volleyball.​ Strong blocking experience all the way from Finland’s highest league.

When she's not hustling with training, school and work, Katja loves to knit and listen to audio books.

How it began

Our mom started a volleyball club in our school, so at 7 and 9 years old we started playing volleyball. It became a lifestyle and we ended up playing as semi-professionals in Finnish League team LP-Vampula.

4 years ago we started playing beach volley for fun during the summer. We fell in love with the sport and realized we'd started to enjoy beach volleyball more than indoor volleyball.

Where are we now

Every year our game has gone forward a lot. In 2017 we started playing the Finnish Tour with not that much success. In 2018 we finished in the top 3 in three out of four tournaments and made our way into the Finnish Championship finals where we finished in 7th place.

Last summer we had two 3rd place and two 2nd place finishes on the Finnish Tour and finished 4th in the Finnish Championships. We also played our first international tournaments. In June we played in a Northern Europe Zonal Event (NEVZA) in Norway. At the end of the summer we felt ready to take the next step in our beach volleyball career and travelled to China to compete in our first World Tour event.

What's next

This year we are giving up indoor volleyball and moving all of our concentration to beach volley. The autumn will be dedicated to lots of physical and technique practices. In the spring we will travel to Brazil to get a head start on playing outdoors.

Next summer we will concentrate on competing internationally; we aim to play some early tournaments in Asia in April and then play in Europe and on the Finnish Tour during the summer.

Next summer our goal is the Finnish Championship and getting into the main draw in World Tour events.

Our dream is to represent Finland in the European and World Championships. We are dedicated to working hard in order to reach our goals!

Delicious lunch buffet and incredible dinner menu. We've organized a Facebook competition with them, shared social media content and hosted a season's end dinner here.

Voi Scooters

Electronic scooter company that arrived in Helsinki in Summer 2019. We organized a team bonding event for the Voi team in the end of July. The joy of scooting around!

Tekniikan Akateemiset

TEK protects the people working in tech and architecture. We've shared our story with them and it will be featured in the upcoming TEK magazine. Stay tuned!

Pre-Christmas Party

On 8th of November the brand new Pasila arena will host the seasons hottest Pre-Christmas party. Escape the winter gloom and enjoy an evening of white sand, palm trees, and +26 degree heat. The evening will include a Hawai’ian Luau Buffet, dinner entertainment, and a beach party with pop-up numbers and a best costume competition.
